Mevagissey is a picturesque working fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall in the former borough of Restormel.
It consists of an inner and outer harbour and has very narrow streets. It is well served with restaurants, public houses and shops. The mini-market and the post office have cash machines.
It has two Churches - St Peter’s (Anglican), St Andrews (United Reform). It has a Museum and an Aquarium.
It has a newly opened Activity Centre, adjoining a bowling green (all weather), 2 tennis courts - both open to non members and a football pitch. The centre has a fitness suite, a multi-use sports hall, and an IT suite.
For the children
/ youths there is a skateboard area, teen age village, mini Wembly and an
enclosed area with swings and climbing frame for the very young.
Mevagissey Parish Council is in the process of developing a Neighbourhood Development Plan. Please see the Notices page for further information on this important project.
During the year the Council provides financial support for various organizations within the Village.
The Council has an unwritten rule that the taxpayers money of Mevagissey is only used for the benefit of Mevagissey.
There is a Feast week that commences on the last Sunday in June. The week consists of activities for young and old alike with sports, dancing, crab fishing, air sea rescue demonstration, carnival and a firework display on the final night.
Mevagissey receives very many tourists throughout the year, and is an ideal base for visiting Cornwall. The Lost Gardens of Heligan is only 2 miles away and the Eden Project 8 miles.
There is a ferry to Fowey during the summer months, the "Bessie James", along with fishing trips and small boat hire.
There are numerous hotels and bed & breakfast establishments.
At Christmas the harbour is decorated with lights and a street party is held to welcome in the New Year.
